"The Table"

I feel like it has been forever since I last posted.  My sister was here visiting for a few days and we had a function at school last night.

The most unbelievable thing happened at lunch today.  One of my firsties came up to the teacher table and said, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."

I immediately glanced at my table to see if anyone was sobbing profusely.  I didn't see any tears, so I asked what he meant.  All he could say was, "The table."

Confused, I walked over to the lunch table, thinking that something seemed out of place, when it hit me.

Ordinarily the lunch tables in our cafeteria look something like this (except not as new):

This is similar to what met my eyes:

I tried pushing it back into place.  It wouldn't budge.  One of the other first grade teachers came to help me.  NOTHING.

At this point, I was beginning to worry that he had actually BROKEN the table!

I took my kids back to the classroom, had another teacher watch my class and took him to the office.  I explained to my principal and she looked justifiably horrified.  I then went on a custodian search.

We went into the cafeteria where a group of fourth graders were attempting to sit and eat at "The Table."  He closed the table and tried to set it back up again.  It looked a little like this:

Long story sort of short, my kiddo somehow was able to remove a pin in part of the table which caused it to not open properly.

So, I have a question for you.  What is the most random thing that has been broken in your classroom?

On a much less stressful note, I FINALLY finished my Valentine themed Math Station Packet.  In it you will find seven station activities:

     -Tweet Subtraction
     -Friendly Fact Families

  2. ha ha loved the visuals! Our tables pull apart right down the middle the long way so we are constantly pushing them back together!

  3. Yikes!!! At least he apologized.
All kinds of things have broken in my room but I can't think of anything like THAT. Clothespins, pointers, tubs, etc. It drives me crazy!

  4. The broken thing that upset me the most was a dent in my whiteboard on my new royal reading writing stand (which I purchased myself) cause a kid was mad and threw his scissors across the room!

  6. Well, I have two things that I've broken (not the kids!) in my classroom. The first one was during my second year teaching...I had this kid (we have all had this one!) who just got under my skin. Everything he said, did, wrote, breathed just got under my skin. Well, I was teaching science and we were all cutting stuff out and this kid kept talking, would not SHUT UP. I had a large pair of those metal, black handled scissors that seem to multiply like rabbits. Well, I tapped them on his desk. Still wouldn't be quiet...so I tapped harder and louder. Well, I didn't realize this, but those strong metal scissors CAN break. The scissor snapped in half and spiraled up in the air and almost hit this kid in the face. So, I learned not to tap any pair of scissors on a kid's desk. The other one isn't as traumatic, but I sat in my teacher chair and had the chair separate from the base. Luckily, no kids witnessed this. I was very embarrassed though!

Whew! That's about as long as a post!!

  7. I think I threw away a remote. A little tiny remote. It was in the midst of a project clean up. I confessed to my crime and now I have to stand on a chair to turn on my HDMI :(
