Question?

Today I am going to meet my mom and sister to wedding dress shop!  While I'm gone, I have a question for you...

How many of you are able to work in your classrooms during the summer?  In the past we haven't been able to get into ours until around the first week in August.  If you are allowed in your classrooms, do you go throughout the summer, wait until it's time to go back?

Just something I've been pondering...

I'm looking forward to reading what you have to say!

Happy Tuesday!!

  1. I live in southeast Idaho and for the most part the districts around here let you work in your room in the summer. My district lets the elementary teachers keep their keys. My husband is in the same district but teaches middle school and they have to turn in their keys until August. I work in my room sporadically until the last week of July, I am putting in two full days this week.

    Have fun today.

    1. Wow! I am so envious...it would be nice to be able to get my room set up and ready before all the meetings and inservices begin!

  2. Our building is closed but we're allowed to keep our keys. I've been back a few times to get a jumpstart on bulletin boards but haven't seen much teacher activity - good for them! The district does officially shut down the week of July 4th as an energy-saving measure.

Happy last few weeks of break!

  3. Our building is opened all summer minus those floor waxing days. We also were allowed to keep our keys. We don't start school until after Labor Day, but I am actually headed to my classroom tomorrow to work on some things. Happy Summer!!

  4. I usually try to stay away from my classroom the first month of summer but then I do like to go in for just little bits of time on and off...when I want to even if it's just to drop off my dollar store finds so they're not filling up my house! This year I wanted to paint my chalkboards, so I did go in for a few hours to do that but now I have to wait for the wax to dry before I go back. :)

  5. We are allowed in as long as we leave before the janitors. I've been working in my room on and off all summer so I can focus on my plans when we go back for inservice next week.

  6. We can go during the summer, I have a key to the school...but it doesn't do any good to go until the custodian finishes the floors on our wing (which fortunately he usually gets finished with by the first couple of weeks in June!)
SO I go and work a few hours at a time throughout the summer =)

  7. We keep our keys during the summer and are free to come and go as we please. I can't imagine working at a school that you don't have that opportunity. I will drop in every once in a while...but I tried to take the month of July completely off and so far I've only went in a couple of times. Pretty amazing for me!

  8. We used to be allowed to keep our keys and go anytime except when the floors were being waxed. But a few years ago the district decided they'd take out keys and we can't get back in till early August. I really wish I had my keys so I could prep early.

  9. So long as there isn't construction, we are permitted to be in out buildings all summer. Howverm this is the third summer construction so I will not be able to get to my room until a week before school starts.

  10. We actually aren't allowed in until the week before the official return date. I'm actually kind of glad for that, I think I would spend way too much time working on my room instead of relaxing! :)
