Book Boxes

I started Daily Five in January, and LOVED it.  However, I did not love the book boxes that I bought for my kiddos.  They took up a lot of space and they tended to tip over.  They served their purpose for last year, but I knew that I was going to want something different.  Here is an example of my old book boxes:

I REALLY wanted plastic magazine boxes this year but they are SO expensive.  After some searching, I discovered these:

I got these heavy duty, colorful cardboard magazine boxes from Classroom Direct.  They come six to a pack and did I mention they are colorful?  These boxes are much more in line with what I wanted because not only will they be able to keep their books in them, but also their writer's notebooks!

Do you use book boxes in your classroom?  What type of container do you use?

Happy Wednesday!

  1. Last year, for first grade, I used the dishpans from the dollar tree. They fit perfect in the cubbies. For kindergarten this year, I plan to use the same thing when they are ready for it.

  2. I was lucky enough to receive the Really Good Stuff plastic ones to store their books for independent reading. They are a little costly but worth the $$$. I've added to my collection when we receive beginning of the year money from the state.
You can take a look at my baskets here. http://booky4first.blogspot.com/2012/06/colors-galore.html

  5. We've had the same type of book boxes as you, but a little shorter. Think they came from Really Good Stuff. They were great for many, many years, but finally bit the dust this year, so we're on the hunt as well.

We put numbers on the front of ours(after many years of rewriting names) and that worked great for the kids to grab their boxes by number and go.

  6. I bought the sterile light 3 set drawers from Wal-Mart a couple years ago and used those. They worked well except for really big books. I am trying to figure out what to use for this year. Thanks for posting about this because I love learning what others use.

  7. I used to use those book boxes and I really liked them. I found plastic baskets with handles and I like the handle. I think you will be happy with them.
